erin waxman is awesome! she and megan brewster are the brains and brawn behind art star! art star is a lovely shop and gallery in the northern liberties area of philadelphia, they show all types of great work and have lovely handmade items and gifts. i have them to thank for some of the food that made it to my belly while i lived in philly. they have been amazing to get to know and work with. they really know how to work it!

erin just recently did and interview with 34th st magazine and listed me as one of the most exciting artists in philly! melt my heart. today i am nostalgic for my recent past city of existence. i am wearing my liberty bell and plan on quietly ringing it every time i think of home. ding ding.

nate and i went to see cocorosie last night at the trocadero. it was a beautiful show, diane cluck opened and there were some very talented musicians that joined cocorosie on stage. i love going to shows to see the division of labor, especially artists that have a lot of electronic elements in their work. the most amazing thing about the show was the beat boxer who preformed with cocorosie. his name is tez, he is from france, and i like him very much. he is by far the bestest beat boxer in the whole world!

after the show, nate and i ate dinner across the street. on our way out we noticed that tez was standing outside. nate and i quickly ran up to his apartment and got the mouth sounds book, we knew it belonged in his hands. i gave it to him and he was so excited to receive it. i'd like to think that maybe he will incorporate some of the new techniques into his routine, at the very least he will learn how to whistle, pop, click, and honk his way to social success.

pretty much the most amazing thing i've seen in a long time! although i did see two wiener dogs with cones a week ago.

sunday, at the delaware center for contemporary arts, a very tiny circus hosted a day of fun! we worked with the community to make a mousetrap/rube goldberg animation similar to the video but in 2-d stop motion. who likes/needs physics anyway?

as my time in philadelphia draws to a close i am doing all the things that are awesome about living in this city. viewing a love letter for you has been on my list for some time, and now it is checked off. it's so beautiful! the murals by stephen powers are best viewed form the train that runs right behind my house. they are sneaky and you gotta be in the look out, they camouflage right into old sign paintings and billboards. i love them.

it's official, i am excited to announce that i will be attending the new york state college of ceramics at alfred university in the fall of 2010! hooray!

kinda magical the way it all played out. i was at kansas state doing crits with some great grad students, then on my last one, i kept thinking "i don't want this to end". poor luke had to keep talking/listen to me well beyond his allotted slot. I walked out of the room and announced to the hallway in a whiny, impatient toddler voice "i wanna go to school". then I checked my phone messages and tada! a very official message from walter mcconnell. in addition to inviting me to the graduate program, he also made the amazingness above. pretty sure i'll like alfred.

if you had told me 5 years ago that someday in my future i would have two conference calls in the same day i would conference call you crazy. but tomorrow it is true. i have two very important phone calls and am now sure that i'll be thirty in two months time.

this reminded me of a dream my friend grace had where i bullied her into getting a whole sleeve tattoo of an office scene. it was all 1980's clip art style with ibm giant computers and conference calls and presentations with pointers and bar charts. i made her get it so that when others questioned her lifestyle or told her to get a job that she could point to the tattoo and say "this is the only 9-5 i need" or "I got a job, right here".

i think the dream amy was onto something.

saw this homemade hopscotch. it's beautiful, tightly made with masking tape and love.saw this free-range iguana sunning itself in a northern liberties window.

since my return from wales (been a year, whoa) i have made an effort to seek more theatrical and performance based work that excites me. these two have done it, and very well. i just saw the "comeuppance of man" last night- brilliant! the combination of fact vs. fiction and lowtech vs. high theartrical performance was beautiful. storytelling at it's finest!

blood, bridge, ben, back to work

yesterday i went to body worlds 2 at the franklin institute and today i walked to new jersey via the ben franklin bridge. the bunny was joined by a lamb and a chicken all showing the blood vessel configurations. there of course was tons of human body stuff, but i of course fell in love with these. they are crazy, it's like fake spanish moss in the shape of a bunny.
bridge walking is great! it takes 2 hrs round trip from philadelphia to camden. i am working on an animation that will combine photographs taken from the bridge with some stop motion of me pulling the whale i made so long ago.

deanna, hope and i went to the philadelphia zoo! oldest zoo in america. we were excited to pet the goats,

they were also excited to see us, this guy couldn't hide it, he lost control

and i really liked these swan paddle boats! nothing like fake animals at the zoo.

this trip to the zoo is perhaps the most direct research i've done in years. i completed the below diorama to be included in a 2010 calendar compiled by friend krista peel.

hope and i traveled to kenova, west virginia for a tandem visiting artist lecture and workshop at marshall university. our buddy jason and his wife ashley live and work in kenova. kenova is located in the north western corner of west virginia and touches ohio and kentucky. kenova stands for KEN=kentucky, O=ohio, VA=west virginia. pretty dang clever. this is the park ashley works at.

on easter sunday went to the pet store that g.w. works at. viisting a pet store afterhours has been a dream of mine forever! we played with puppies, birds, rats, fish, bunnies, lizards and more!

here it is finally! sorry for the delay! please enjoy! yay!

the animation is 5 minutes long and the music is 4 minutes long. the animation and music fall in and out of time beautifully when on a continuos loop. the music was made by my dear friend stephen kent, he is a brilliant musician and artist.

this animation was projected on a 9' x 12' screen that stephen, my dad, and i built in the gallery space. it's all over now. whew!

today was magic! (in this order) i received praise/interest in my work from a high school student, helpful criticism and dinner from my old professor, and the most amazing package chuck full of awesomeness from my buddy jason! i don't want tomorrow.

mummers are amazing! this guy was taking time out to sober up with a sandwich and a beer. i'm pretty sure he then went around the corner and peed in a planter. i love mummer's day!
saw this guy last year at the mummer's day parade and he changed my life, never thought i'd see him again! what he does is real complicated, he gets a whole bunch of regular balloons, then blows them up with his mouth, then hands them to children, thus making them hold on to the part that just came out of his mouth. the children don't really know what to do with such an ordinary balloon and are unwillingly goaded by parents to say thank you for the dramatic presentation of a regular old balloon. this year i got to see this guy again and also witness a child refuse a balloon by saying, "i think i might be allergic to balloons". awesome!

nate's quarter century birthday cake! the amazing flower thingy is perhaps the best chinatown score yet! it's acquisition was just like the beginning scene of gremlins. the saleswoman was afraid i would disobey the rules and endanger lives, and for good reason. electronic happy birthday played as the fireworks light the candles and the petals opens! wow!

i went to london to see the pearlies. they were lovely people. i expected there to be a big fandango about the pearly kings and queens but to my surprise i was the only person besides the official pearlies photgrapher, patrick, to recieve them.

bute park is great, i like going to watch the business men eat their sandwiches, they are more entertaining than the squirrels.
animal wall that surrounds the castle! there are about 25 differnt animals, one every 20ft or so. AWESOME!

the cardiff museum is awesome! it's free and has a bunch of old taxidermy in front of murals and wood grain decal ceramics! i have been taking trips weekly to take my time with the collection because it's FREE!

i will be going to wales for a ten week residency in september. i will be working at fireworks studio, with a bunch of great welsh artists in cardiff. i can't wait! art all day!
